Overview

This is a personal blog documenting how I use AI to improve my life and build coding projects. The site is a static website hosted on GitHub Pages.

Information we collect

Information you provide directly

At this time, this site does not provide forms, accounts, or comment features, so I do not collect personal information directly through the website.

Information collected automatically (server logs)

When you visit the site, the hosting provider (GitHub Pages and its infrastructure) may process limited technical information in server logs for security and operational purposes. This can include:

• IP address
• Device and browser type (user agent)
• Pages requested and the date/time of access
• Referring page (if provided by your browser)

I do not attempt to identify you from this information, and I do not merge it with other data sources.

How we use information

Any technical information processed (primarily via hosting logs) is used for:

• Serving site content
• Maintaining site reliability and performance
• Detecting and preventing abuse, fraud, and security incidents
• Complying with legal obligations if required

Cookies and tracking

This site does not use cookies, pixels, localStorage tracking, fingerprinting, or behavioral advertising technology at this time.

If I add analytics, embedded media, a comment system, a newsletter, or a contact form in the future, I will update this policy before (or when) changes go live and provide any required choices/controls.

Sharing of information

I do not sell your personal information.

I do not share personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising (sometimes described as “sharing” under certain laws).

Hosting providers and related infrastructure vendors may process limited technical data as part of providing the website (for example, delivering content and preventing abuse).

Third parties and recipients

This site is hosted on GitHub Pages. GitHub may process limited technical data (such as IP address and request metadata) to host and deliver the website and to maintain security and operational reliability.

Data retention

I do not store personal information collected directly through this site at this time.

Any server-log data handled by the hosting provider is retained according to the hosting provider’s practices and operational requirements. I do not control the hosting provider’s log retention settings.

Legal bases for processing (EEA/UK visitors)

If you are located in the European Economic Area (EEA) or the United Kingdom, GDPR/UK GDPR may apply. To the extent the hosting of this site involves processing personal data (such as IP addresses in server logs), the processing is based on legitimate interests in operating and securing the website and providing content.

Your privacy rights

Depending on your location and circumstances, you may have rights such as: access, rectification, erasure, restriction, objection, and data portability.

You also have the right to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority in your country/region.

Because this site does not collect personal information directly, requests will generally result in confirmation that I do not hold personal data about you, except possibly in hosting provider logs that I do not control.

United States (California and other states)

U.S. state privacy laws vary and may apply based on factors like the type of data processed and certain thresholds. This site is designed to minimize data collection.

If you are a California resident, the following is provided as a simplified “notice at collection”:

You can contact me at nikki@nikkihessner.com with your request. Please include enough information for me to understand what you’re asking. I may need to confirm details to prevent unauthorized requests.

If you disagree with my response to a privacy request, reply to the email and I will review it.

Do Not Track (DNT)

Some browsers offer a “Do Not Track” signal. There is no consistent industry standard for responding to DNT, and this site does not respond to DNT signals at this time.

Children’s privacy

This site is not directed to children. I do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided personal information to me, contact me and I will take appropriate steps to delete it.

Automated decision-making

This site does not use automated decision-making or profiling to make decisions that have legal or similarly significant effects on visitors.

Security

This site is designed to minimize data collection and reduce risk (for example, no third-party scripts by default). No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure, but I take reasonable steps appropriate for a small, static site.

Changes to this policy

I may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in the site, technology, or legal requirements. The “Last updated” date at the top will show when changes were made.
